It has inspired movies and songs for centuries, apart from offering a dreamlike location for shows, catwalks and weddings. Each of its drops contains the history and legends, the economy and traditions of an unparalleled enchanting land. Not to mention the beaches, bays and inlets enhanced by its fresh and crystal-clear waters. The sea is the undisputed lord of the Sorrento Peninsula, which has again been confirmed as one of the most desired seaside resorts in the world.
And it could not be otherwise. Especially after the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) awarded Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento and Massa Lubrense with the Blue Flag: the most prestigious international award dedicated to beach resorts characterized by their clean sea and the top quality of services they offer to bathers.
This summer the flag is waving on San Francesco beach and Massa coastline in Sorrento; on the Marina di Cassano village in Piano di Sorrento; and on breathtaking inlets like Baia delle Sirene, Puolo, Recommone and Marina del Cantone, in Massa Lubrense. In addition to that, the Coast, whose major part is comprised in the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area, offers plenty of other magical places where bathers can spend some hours relaxing and lying in the sun, or maybe swimming and diving.
Any examples? The Meta coastline, rich in typical restaurants and fashionable beach clubs; the baths of Queen Joanna in Sorrento, with the ancient ruins of Pollio Felice’s villa; the Punta Campanella promontory, where a temple dedicated to Minerva used to lie in ancient times; and Ieranto bay, with its caves and its breathtaking view of Capri: these places will let you appreciate the cuisine, history, myths, and, obviously, the extraordinary seaside of the Sorrento Peninsula.
